About the artist...
Born in St Quentin, France, Maurice Pillard Verneuil (1869 - 1942) was an artist and designer who worked under both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements. Inspired by Japanese art, he enjoyed the use of bold, simple imagery, floral designs and geometric patterns. Along with creating designs for tiles, textiles and other interior furnishings he worked on poster art during the early 20th century, collaborating with artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec and Mucha.
