About the artist...
Georges de Feure (1868-1943) was a French painter born into an affluent family of Dutch and Belgian heritage. After attending art school for a short time in Amsterdamn, Feure decided formal training wasn't for him and instead, like so many artists of his era, went to Paris to revel in its heightened creative and cultural atmosphere. He became popular for his posters for cabarets and cafes, predeominantly in the art nouveau style of the period, later branching into furniture design and writing, and displaying his work at the Exposition Universelle de Paris exhibition in 1900.
