About the artist...

William Saville-Kent (1845-1908) was an English marine biologist and pioneer of sustainable fishing, most noted for his documentation of the Great Barrier Reef.

After working in various aquariums throughout England, he moved to Australia in 1889 and become Commissioner of Fisheries. His work on cultured pearls and documentation of the Great Barrier Reef attracted worldwide attention, leading to this wonderful collection of colourful illustrations.
